Blue Hens lead by nine points after one-quarter of play
The game would start with Delaware jumping out to a 7-3 lead with 6:34 left in the first quarter. Ty Battle would score all seven points on the run for the Hens.
Seconds later, Delaware State would score seven unanswered points to take a 10-7 lead with 4:30 left in the first quarter.
At the 4:12 minute mark, the Blue Hens would start on a 20-1 run, which gave them a 20-11 lead after one-quarter of play. The trio of Jasmine Dickey, Ty Battle, and sophomore guard Tara Cousins would score 11 of the 12 points on the run. Six of the 21 points came from the free-throw line.
Rebounding also played a factor on the run for the University of Delaware as the team collected six rebounds.
Hens lead by 22 points at the end of the first half
In the first six minutes of the second quarter, Delaware would outscore DSU 13-7 to push their lead to 33-18. The duo of Jasmine Dickey and Lizzie Oleary would score ten of the 13 points during that time. Oleary also had a block during that time.
Starting at the 3:27 minute mark, the Blue Hens would go on a 10-3 run to end the first half with a 43-21 lead.
Delaware holds a 22 point lead after three-quarters of play
In the first five minutes of the second half, the University of Delaware would outscore Delaware State 11-8 to expand their lead to 54-29. Rebounding played a part in this run as the Hens collected seven rebounds.
At the 3:51 minute mark, the Hornets would outscore the Blue Hens 7-4 to cut the lead to 22 points (58-36) after three-quarters of play.
The University of Delaware wins 79-48!
Delaware would start the final quarter off on a 12-3 run, which extended their lead to 70-40 with 6:24 left in the game. Jasmine Dickey would score eight of the 12 points on the run.
The Blue Hens would add nine more points to their score to seal a 79-48 win over their Route 1 rivals Delaware State. Dickey scored seven of the nine points during that stretch.
