Harrison, Izumi & Round combine for 36 points in Goldey-Beacom’s season-opening 58-45 win over Saint Michael’s

Lightning down by three points after one-quarter of play

The game started with Saint Michael’s jumping out to a 9-1 lead with 5:23 left in the first quarter.

Starting at the 5:10 minute mark, Goldey-Beacom would start to wake up as the team went on a 9-4 run to close the first quarter only down by three points (13-10). During this run, the Lightning was locked down on the rebounds as the team collected seven. Goldey’s defense also stepped up during the run as the team had two steals and two blocks.

Goldey-Beacom holds a six-point lead at the end of the first half 

At the 8:39 minute mark in the second quarter, the Lightning would take their first lead in the game, with Mone Izumi hitting a jump shot to give her team a 14-13 advantage.

Starting at the 6:47 minute mark, Goldey-Beacom would outscore the Purple Knights 10-5 to take a 24-18 lead into the end of the first half. Rebounding was once again a factor on a run as the team collected six rebounds. Goldey also had one block by Alexis Harrison on the run.

The trio of Harrison, Sarah Round, and sophomore forward Janiya Stevens score all ten points during that time.

Goldey takes a 22 point lead after three-quarters of play

The second half of this game started with the Lightning going on a 13-5 run, which extended their lead to 37-23 with 5:16 left in the third quarter. The duo of Sarah Round and sophomore guard Briana Seltzer scored seven of the 13 points on the run.

Starting at the 4:23 minute mark, Goldey-Beacom would jump on a 12-4 run to end the third quarter with a 49-27 lead. The duo of Alexis Harrison and Round would score all 12 points on the run. Round would drain back-to-back three-point shots at the end of the third quarter.

Lightning win 58-45!

In the fourth quarter, Saint Michael’s would outscore the Lightning 18-9, but it would not matter as the team took home a 58-45 win.
