Lightning strikes first in the fourth inning
It took some time for the scoring to get started in this game as each team’s pitcher was stifling the opposing team’s batters, but in the fourth inning, that would all change in Goldey-Beacom’s favor.
The action on the bases in the top of the fourth inning started with Trent Hearn hitting a two-out single to right field.
Ivan Solis would be the next batter up as he earned a walk to first base.
Bryan Bell would step up to the plate as he would hit a two-out double to right field, which would score Hearn and Solis to give the Lightning a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Goldey-Beacom wins 3-0!
After pitching seven scoreless innings, Goldey’s starting pitcher Jake Heskett’s day would come to an end as he walked six batters, four strikeouts, and earned the win.
Jake Kinsell would come in for Heskett in the eighth inning as he gave up two hits, struck out one, and able to get two hitters to fly out.
The Lightning would add one last run to their lead in the top of the ninth inning, as Mason Maxwell would hit a single to left field, which allowed Bryan Bell to score to give their team a 3-0 lead.
Kinsell would come back in the bottom of the ninth, which he would strike out two Saint Thomas Aquinas batters and get one to fly out to seal the 3-0 win.
Goldey-Beacom will now face Molloy on May 28th at 7:00 pm ET in the next round of the NCAA II Tournament East Regional.
