Lightning sweep Chestnut Hill in season opener

The Goldey-Beacom hitters gained five hits in the win, which were Walker (2), Solis (1), Maxwell (1), and Marshall Awtry (1).

Maxwell stole a base in the 3-1 win.

On the pitching side, sophomore pitcher Anthony DiMartino was dominant in his start as he went seven innings, four hits, one run, two walks, nine strikeouts, and earned the win.

Chestnut Hill & Goldey Beacom score in the fifth

The only blemish of the game for the Lightning’s pitcher Anthony DiMartino was allowing a run in the top of the fifth inning.

Chestnut Hill’s run came from Goldey-Beacom’s Justin Hill making a fielding error which allowed Nate O’Donnell to get on base and R.J. Huth to score. Huth would give the Griffins a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

The Lightning would tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth when Trent Hearn flied out to the right field, which allowed Kyle Walker to score.

Two batters later, Mason Maxwell would hit a double to the left-center field, which would score Garrett Musey to give Goldey-Beacom a 2-1 lead.

Lightning add one more run in the sixth inning

The last run of the game would come from Kyle Walker, who would hit a double to left-center field, which allowed Ivan Solis to score to give Goldey a 3-1 win.
