CAA Semifinals: Blue Hens defense stifles Hofstra in 60-39 win

Delaware leads by four after one-quarter of play

In the first three minutes of this game, Hofstra would take control of the lead with a score of 5-2 with 7:17 left in the first quarter.

Seconds later, the Blue Hens would start on a 12-5 run, which would give the team a 14-10 lead with 2:41 left in the first quarter. The trio of Jasmine Dickey, sophomore forward Brynn Wade, and freshman guard Tyi Skinner would score all 12 points.

Both teams would score five points in the last two minutes of the first quarter as the Hens would hold on to a 19-15 lead.

Blue Hens lead by 11 at the end of the first half

The second quarter started with Delaware running out to an 8-3 run, which extended their lead to 27-18 with 5:42 remaining in the first half. The leading scorer of this run was Lizzie Oleary, who scored four of the eight points. The defensive play of the Hens was solid on this run, as the team had five defensive rebounds and two steals.

Starting at the 4:04 minute mark, the Blue Hens would outscore the Pride 5-3 to push their lead to 32-21 at the end of the first half. During those last four minutes of the second quarter, Delaware collected four defensive rebounds and one steal.

Hens lead by 19 after three-quarters of play

The Blue Hens continued on their fiery pace in the second half as the team went on a 13-4 run, which expanded their lead to 45-20 with 5:04 remaining in the third quarter. The leader of this run was Ty Battle, as she scored six of the 13 points. The defensive play of the Hens continued to be dominant as the team collected four defensive rebounds and one steal on the run.

Hofstra would score the last bucket of the third quarter, but Delaware would still lead by 19 points (45-26).

Delaware wins by 21

The last quarter started with the Blue Hens adding more points to their lead as the team went on an 11-3 run, which gave them a 56-29 advantage with 5:35 left in the game. The duo of redshirt junior guard/forward Chyna Latimer and Lizzie Oleary would score seven of the 11 points on the run.

The Hens would score four more points in the fourth quarter to seal a 60-39 win over the Pride and a spot in the CAA championship.
