Collins & Harris combine for 25 points in Hornets 60-45 win vs Coppin State

Lady Hornets lead by four after one-quarter of play

The intensity of conference play showed in the first quarter as the lead changed hands six times, and the score was tied five times in the first nine minutes of the period. The final lead change during those nine minutes came from sophomore guard Naomi Shorts, who hit a jumper to give the Hornets a 13-11 lead with 1:05 left in the first quarter.

The last points of the first quarter came from Sharajah Collins who made two foul shots to give Delaware State University a 15-11 lead.

Hornets hold a six point lead at the half

In the early minutes of the second quarter, DSU would start to roll as the team went on a 9-0 run, which extended their lead to 24-11 with 3:07 left in the first half. The duo of Sharajah Collins and Daije Harris would score seven of the nine points on the run.

The Lady Hornets were also aided on that run by Coppin State, turning the ball over six times.

Starting at the 2:39 minute mark, the Eagles would go on an 8-1 run, which cut the lead to six points (25-19) at the end of the first half.

DSU holds a five-point lead after three-quarters of play

Coppin State came out of the half with some new energy as the team went on a 10-2 run, which gave them a 29-27 lead with 7:00 minutes left in the third quarter.

At the 4:19 minute mark, Delaware State would answer back with a 9-2 run of their own, which gave the team a 36-31 lead to end the third quarter. The leader of this run was senior forward Zoe Holmes, who scored four of the nine points on the run. Rebounding was also a key on the 9-2 run as the Lady Hornets collected five rebounds.

Delaware State wins by 15 points

The Hornets came out in the early minutes of the fourth quarter buzzing as the team went on an 18-7 run, which expanded their lead to 54-38 with 3:02 left in the game. Nine of the 18 points came from the three-point shot in which senior guard Lyric Turner, Daije Harris, and senior guard Janasia Law all made one.

In the last three minutes of the game, the Eagles would outscore DSU 7-6, but it would not matter as the Hornets cruised to a 60-45 victory.
