Wildcats Defeat Stonehill & Wheeling Jesuit In Double Header

The Wilmington University women’s softball team have now won four straight games as on Thursday the team defeated the Wheeling Jesuit University Cardinals 9-0 and the Stone Hill College SkyHawks 4-0.

 

Game One ( Won 9-0 Vs Wheeling Jesuit University Cardinals)

As runs batted in goes ( RBI), five Wildcats had them and they were junior left fielder Rosa’Lynn Burton (1), junior shortstop Alyssa Velasquez (2), sophomore pitcher Makayla McCarthy (1), senior first baseman Lexi Baughman (3) and senior second baseman Jazmeen Llamas (2).

Seven Wildcats scored runs in the game and they were Burton (1),Velasquez (2), junior catcher Angela Antonini (2), junior infielder Alexis Sann (1),Baughman (1),redshirt junior center fielder Kiana Broderson-Jones (1) and junior right fielder Courtney Dellinger (1).

Seven Wilmington players had a hit in the game and they were Burton (2),Velasquez (1),Antonini (1),McCarthy (1), Baughman (1), Broderson-Jones (1) and Llamas (2).

Rosa’Lynn Burton,Angela Antonini and Kiana Broderson-Jones each stole a base in Wilmington’s win.

Alyssa Velasquez and Lexi Baughman each recorded a home run in Wilmington’s win.

On the pitching side, sophomore pitcher Makayla McCarthy was flat out dominant in the win as she went six innings, two hits, two walks, eight strikeouts, a complete game shutout and earned the win.

McCarthy had 67 strikes on 106 pitches in Wilmington’s win against the Cardinals.

 

Wilmington’s Scores Four In Second Inning

The top of the second inning is where the scoring started as Wilmington’s starting pitcher Makayla McCarthy hit a double to right center to score Angela Antonini which gave their team a 1-0 lead.

The next run came from Jazmeen Llamas who singled down the left field line which scored Kiana Broderson-Jones and Alexis Sann to increase WilmU lead to 3-0.

The next batter would be Rosa’Lynn Burton who would single to third base which scored Courtney Dellinger to give Wildcats a 4-0 lead.

 

WilmU Adds Three More In Fifth Inning

McCarthy continued to stifle the Cardinals hitters as they stay silent through five innings but the Wildcats continued to score.

In the top of the fifth inning,Lexi Baughman would hit a home run to left center which scored Angela Antonini,Alyssa Velasquez and herself to give their team a 7-0 lead.

 

Velasquez Homers in Sixth To Seal Wildcats Win

In the top of the sixth, Wildcats added two more runs when Alyssa Velasquez would hit a home run to right center which scored Rosa’Lynn Burton and herself.

McCarthy closed the game out shutting down the Cardinals hitters for one more inning as she would seal the 9-0 win for the Wildcats.

McCarthy went six innings, two hits, two walks, eight strikeouts, a complete game shutout and earned the win.

Wilmington stays on the road to take on Merrimack and Saint Anselm on March 8th at 9:15 am and 11:30am.

 

Game Two ( 4-0 Win vs Stone Hill College SkyHawks)

Four Wilmington players scored runs in the game and they were Burton (1),Broderson-Jones (1),Courtney Dellinger (1) and Alexis Sann (1).

Six Wildcats players had a hit in the game and they were Burton (2), Broderson-Jones (2), Alyssa Velasquez (1), Lopez (2), Lexi Baughman (2) and Jazmeen Llamas (1).

Rosa’Lynn Burton and Courtney Dellinger each stole a base in Wilmington’s win.

On the pitching side, McCarthy dominated in Game one and senior pitcher Caitlyn Whiteside dominated in game two. Whiteside went seven innings, four hits,one walk, six strikeouts, complete game shutout and earned the win.

Whiteside had 62 strikes on 89 pitches in the Wildcats win.

 

Wildcats Score A Combined Four Runs In Fourth & Fifth Inning

The pitching was deadly in the first three innings as no batter could score but that would change in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Lauren Lopez would single to right field which scored Courtney Dellinger and Kiana Broderson-Jones to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

The Wildcats were not done yet as in the bottom of the fifth inning, Rosa’Lynn Burton would triple to right center which would score Alexis Sann to increase Wildcats lead to 3-0.

The next batter would be Kiana Broderson-Jones who singled to the left side which scored Burton to give Wildcats a 4-0 lead.

Whiteside would seal the game with two more scoreless innings to close a 4-0 victory against the SkyHawks.

Whiteside went seven innings, four hits,one walk, six strikeouts, complete game shutout and earned the win.
