Five Wildcats Score In Double Digits In 70-65 Win Vs Holy Family

The Wilmington University women’s basketball team has now won two straight games after defeating the Holy Family University Tigers 70-65 at the WU Athletics Complex on Wednesday.

The leading scorer for the Wildcats in the game was graduate student guard Macy Robinson who scored 17 points.

Wilmington’s senior forward Nyree Grant recorded a double-double in the win as she scored 14 points and collected 14 rebounds.

Three other Wilmington players scored in double digits and they were sophomore forward Jadyn Whitsitt (11), freshman guard Kiara Eubanks (12) and freshman forward Emily Ansah (16).

WilmU had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included Rebounds (38-35), Steals (9-5), Points in the Paint (36-16) and Blocks (6-2).

Wilmington also won the turnover battle in the game by 13-14.

Wilmington also had the advantage in shooting as well, with the team shooting 44.1% (26-59) and with the Tigers shooting 42.9% ( 30-70).

Robinson & Ansah Combine For 14 Points As Wilmington Takes First Qtr Lead

The leading scorer for the Wildcats in the first quarter was Macy Robinson who scored eight points. Robinson’s teammate, Emily Ansah was right behind her as she scored six points in the quarter.

As a team, Wilmington shot 46.7% (7-15) in the first half and they also shot 100% ( 2-2) at the foul line.

Holy Family shot 42.9% (6-14) in the first half and they also shot 100% ( 2-2) at the foul line.

The first quarter started with the Wildcats taking a quick 11-3 lead which was led by Robinson who score five points on the run.

The Tigers would outscore the Wildcats 14-7 for the rest of the quarter but Wilmington would end the first quarter with a 18-17 lead.

 

Ansah, Grant & Whitsitt Combine For 17 Points As Wildcats Take Halftime Lead

The leading scorers in the second quarter for Wilmington were Emily Ansah and Jadyn Whitsitt who each scored six points. Nyree Grant was right behind her teammates, as she scored five points in the quarter.

As a team, Wilmington dipped in shooting some in the second quarter as they shot 42.9% (9-21).

The Tigers could not find many good looks in the second quarter as the team shot 33.3% (5-15).

Wildcats out rebounded the Tigers 12-7 in the quarter.

Wilmington went on a 10-0 run around the 2:50 minute mark to increase their lead to 39-27 at the half.

First Half Stats

Wilmington had a 44.44% (16-36) shooting parentage in the first half and Holy Family had 37.93% (11-29).

WilmU’s leading scorer in the half was  Emily Ansah with  12 points.

Tigers leading scorer in the half was  Elizabeth Radley with 10 points.

 

Grant & Robinson Combine For 11 Points As Wilmington Continue Their Lead In Third Qtr

The leading scorer in the third quarter for the Wildcats was Nyree Grant who scored six points. Grant’s teammate, Macy Robinson was right behind her in scoring  five points in the quarter.

Wilmington continued to dip downward in shooting as the team shot 40.0% (4-10) in the third quarter. The Wildcats also shot 62.5% (5-8) at the foul line in the third quarter.

The Tigers also continued their downward shift in shooting as the team shot 31.3% (5-16) in the third quarter. Holy Family also went 50.0% (3-6) at three point line in the third quarter.

Around the 7:25 minute mark, Wilmington went on a 8-0 run which increased their lead to 46-29 with 4:58 left in the quarter.

The Tigers out scored the Wildcats 12-6 for the rest of the quarter but Wilmington would still take a 52-41 lead into the fourth quarter.

 

 Eubanks Scores 8 Pts In Fourth Quarter As WilmU Holds On To Win

The leading scorer for the Wildcats in the fourth quarter was Kiara Eubanks  who scored eight points.

As a team, Wilmington improved their shooting in the fourth as the team shot 46.2% (6-13) and they also shot 75.0% (6-8) at the foul line.

Holy Family shot their best shooting percentage of the game in the fourth quarter as they shot  52.6% (10-19).

The Wildcats started out the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run which increased their lead to 59-41 with 7:07 left in the game.

The Tigers were down most of the quarter by a sizable lead but within 19 seconds the team decreased Wilmington’s lead to 68-65.

Wildcats Jadyn Whitsitt would hit two free throw shots with time running down to seal her team’s 70-65 home win.

Wilmington travels to Goldey-Beacom to end the season on March 2nd at 1 PM ET.
