The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference announced Tuesday that Wilmington University’s guard Jermaine Head was named CACC Rookie of the Year for the 2017-2018 basketball season. Head was also named to the CACC All-Conference second team.
It was also announced that guard Nick Richards was named CACC All-Conference first team.
Head who is a redshirt sophomore is the first Wilmington University basketball player to earn CACC Rookie of the Year.
The redshirt sophomore from Edgewood, Maryland led all rookies and was fourth in scoring in the CACC with 18.5 points per game. Head also averaged for the season 5.3 rebounds (23rd in CACC), 4.7 assists ( 2nd in CACC) and 2.1 steals ( 4th in CACC) in 29 games.
Also, Head ended second in the CACC with 136 assists on the season and set Wilmington’s single season program record in assists.
Senior guard Nick Richards was also honored by the CACC with a First team All-CACC selection. This is Richards second All conference selection of his career, first one was in his junior season with a second all conference selection.
Richards averaged 20.6 points per game this season which landed in him second in the conference in that category. The New Castle, Delaware native scored double digits in every game this season except one. The senior Wilmington guard also averaged on the season 6.3 rebounds (13th in CACC) , 3.8 assists (9th In CACC) and 2.3 steals ( 3rd in CACC) in 22 games.
Richards ended seventh best in the CACC with 61 steals and seventh in shooting percentage with 51.7% on the season.
