Wildcats Take Down CACC Opponent Felician 82-73

Wilmington University went to  Rutherford, New Jersey Wednesday night to take on CACC  opponent the Felician Golden Falcons where the Wildcats were able to get a 82-73 win.

It all started in the first half, where the Golden Falcons came out fast with a 12-2 run in the early minutes of the the half. Terrell Spaulding led the run for Felician with 5 points and 3 defensive rebounds.

Wilmington University was not going down without a fight and at the 13:32 mark in the first half they went on a 9-o run of their own. It started with a Masner Beauplan made free throw and then ended with Brian Adkins layup to tie the game up at 16. After the run, Tyaire Ponzo-Meek hit a layup to give Wilmington their first lead of the game.

Then for a while the two teams would trade baskets and the lead in the game. About the 4:59 mark in the first the Wildcats had enough of sharing the lead and took the lead for good in the first half. Wilmington went on a 14-6 run in the final minutes of the first half to extend the lead to 38-30. The run started with two made free throws by Omari Dill-Pettiford and then ended with a Nick Richards jump shot to end the half.

Wildcats shot 40.6% from the field in the first half, while the Golden Falcons shot 31.4%.

Wildcats shot 10% from the three point line in first half, while the Golden Falcons shot 33.3%.

The Wildcats led in steals with 11 in the first half, compared to Golden Falcons 1.

The Golden Falcons out rebounded the Wildcats 27-19.

Nick Richards led the Wildcats with 13 points in the first half.

Terrell Spaulding led the Golden Falcons with 9 points in the first half.

In the second half, Wilmington looked like they had things rolling for a easy win  but Felician was not going to make it easy for them. Just as the game looked like it was getting tighter with Felician only down 7 points, the Wildcats would always respond right back and build their lead.

Starting with a Ponzo-Meek three pointer and ending with a ending with a Nick Richards three pointer the Wildcats would go on a 8-0 run with 14:38 left in the game.

Then at 13:28 mark things started to get dicey for Wilmington because Felician went on a 13-0 run to take over the lead with a 58-57 score.  After Felician’s run, Ponzo-Meek hit a lay up to put Wilmington back in the driver seat by 1. Well after Ponzo-Meek score, Wilmington decided to go on a 8-0 run to put them 68-60 with 7:55 left in the game. The run started with Nick Richards three pointer and ended with a Masner Beauplan lay up.

After the 8-0 run, Wilmington would hold on to lead for the rest of the game and would hang on to win 82-73.

Tyaire Ponzo-Meek led the Wildcats with 30 points in the game.

Wilmington’s Nick Richards also had a nice game with 23 points.

Wilmington University ( 10-5, 5-1 CACC) plays Dominican next at the WU Complex on Saturday. Tip off is at 3pm.
