CACC Champions!: Two second half goals lift Wilmington University over Caldwell 2-0

The Wilmington University women’s soccer team is the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Champion after defeating Caldwell University 2-0 on Saturday. This is the second CACC Championship for the program. WilmU also clinched its third appearance in the East Regional Tournament with the victory.

Wilmington University becomes CACC Champions with a 2-0 win!

In the opening period of this CACC Championship game, the intensity level was high as neither team could find a lane to get a goal in the first half.

The Wildcats outshot Caldwell 7-3 in the opening half.

WilmU would wake the scoreboard up at the 67:12 mark in the second half, when Freshman forward Eboni Bradshaw found the back of the net to give her team a 1-0 lead. Freshman defender Indigo Kirk and junior forward Sierra Bartley assisted on the score.

Eleven minutes and 34 seconds later, Redshirt junior defender Maria Leguizamon sealed the Cats’ win with a header into the net to put the score at 2-1 and give her team the CACC title. Junior defender Cayley Winters assisted on the score.

Stats and standouts:

The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were  Eboni Bradshaw, Indigo Kirk, Sierra Bartley, Maria Leguizamon, Cayley Winters, and junior goalkeeper Arianna Myers.

Bradshaw had three shots, one shot at the goal, and scored one goal in the match.

Kirk had one shot and one assist in the win.

Bartley had one assist in the game.

Leguizamon had four shots, two shots at the goal, and scored one goal in the victory.

Winters had one shot, one shot at the goal, and one assist in the game.

Myers allowed zero goals and had three saves in 90 minutes in the game.
