CACC Tournament: Grygo records 4 RBIs in Wilmington University’s win over Goldey-Beacom

The Wilmington University softball team is moving on in the next round of the CACC tournament with an 8-3 win over the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning on Thursday. WilmU will play Jefferson at 11 am on Friday.

Game Recap:

Wilmington University leads by one at the end of the fourth inning.

Goldey-Beacom would strike first in this game by scoring two runs in the opening inning by stealing home and a single to give their team a 2-0 edge.

Freshman third baseman Haley Grygo would get the Wildcats on the board in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single to right field to cut the score to 2-1.

The Lightning added another run to their lead in the top of the third with an RBI single, taking the score to 3-1.

In the bottom of the inning, Haley Grygo recorded her second RBI of the day with a single through the left side.

Senior catcher Bella Barnes capped off the scoring by hitting an RBI double down the left-field line to tie the score at three.

WilmU would grab the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Senior outfielder Tristyn Stewart slapped an RBI single to the shortstop to give her team a 4-3 advantage.

The Wildcats take home an 8-3 win!

Bella Barnes would widen the Cats’ edge to 5-3 in the fifth inning by smoking a RBI triple to right field.

Wilmington would add another three runs to their lead (8-3) in the sixth when Freshman pitcher/outfielder Maddie Vollmar hit an RBI double, and Grygo slugged a two-run homer to left field.

Maddie Vollmar earned the win in this game by pitching 4.2 innings, one hit, one walk, and striking out five.
