Tyler Pirrung’s walk-off two-run double earns Wilmington University a sweep over Felician

The Wilmington University baseball team earned a sweep on Wednesday versus the Felician University Golden Falcons. WilmU won the first game 13-3 and took home the victory in the second match 2-1.

Game Recap GM1:

Wilmington leads by seven at the end of the second inning.

Felician struck first in this game by scoring on an RBI double to left-center in the top of the opening inning to take a 1-0 edge.

WilmU responded in the bottom of the inning, with senior outfielder Kory Pritchard tying the game with an RBI single up the middle. After stealing second and moving to third on a wild pitch, he helped the Cats take a 2-1 lead when he scored off a ground out.

In the next inning, the Wildcats took advantage of the Golden Falcons’ mistakes and turned them into runs, extending their lead to 8-1.

The errors that scored the runs were a fielding one and a wild pitch.

Sophomore shortstop/pitcher Justin Hernandez also pushed a run home with a Sac Fly.

The only hit of the inning came from Graduate student infielder Josearmando Diaz, who smoked a two-run RBI single to center field.

WilmU leads by ten runs at the end of the fourth inning.

Felician added another run to their total in the top of the third inning when they scored on a wild pitch to slice the deficit to 8-2.

Wilmington punched by in a big way by scoring four runs on five hits and one error in the bottom of the fourth to expand their edge to 12-2.

Junior infielder Tyler Pirrung and Josearmando Diaz each recorded an RBI single in the inning.

Senior outfielder/pitcher Shawn Edevane and sophomore pitcher/first baseman and sophomore/pitcher Chase Fleming both had an RBI double in the fourth.

The Wildcats take home a 13-3 win!

The Golden Falcons inched a little closer to the lead in the top of the fifth when they slugged a homer to right field.

Wilmington would add another run in the eighth to seal a 13-3 win over Felician.

Pitching Recap:

Wilmington University used four pitchers in the game, including senior pitcher/third baseman Scott Borgmann, who pitched five innings, gave up eight hits, three runs, three earned runs, three walks, struck out three, one home run, and earned the win.

Game Recap GM2:

Wilmington University takes home a 2-1 win!

The pitching for both teams did a good job keeping the opposing offense from getting any momentum in the innings and not scoring a run by only giving up a combined six hits and keeping it at zero on the big board until the fifth inning.

Felician would score the first run of the game in the top of the fifth on a fielding error from the Cats’ first baseman.

Two innings later, Tyler Pirrung slapped a walk-off, game-winning, two-out, two-run double to right field to give WilmU a 2-1 victory.
