The University of Delaware women’s basketball team earned their eighth victory of the season on Friday with a 70-61 win over the Monmouth Hawks.
Sophomore center Ande’a Cherisier led the team in scoring in the win with 21 points.
Three other Hens players scored in double digits: Senior guard Tara Cousins (13), Senior guard Rebecca Demeke (12), and Senior forward Chloe Wilson (12).
UD had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included turnovers (13-19), steals (11-6), and assists (16-12).
The Blue Hens also had the advantage in shooting, with the team boasting 47.5(28-59) and Monmouth 44.1 (26-59). UD also bested the Hawks from the three-point line, with the team shooting 25.0(4-16) and Monmouth shooting 18.8(3-16). Delaware also outshot the Hawks at the free-throw line, with the team shooting 62.5(10-16), and Monmouth 60.0 (6-10).

Delaware leads by nine at the end of the first quarter.
The Blue Hens started this game by running out to a 19-10 edge with 2:55 remaining in the opening period. Tara Cousins, Ande’a Cherisier, and senior forward Michelle Ojo speared the run for the team by scoring 17 of the 19 points.
UD’s next points came at the very last second of the first when Rebecca Demeke nailed a three-pointer to give her team a 22-16 advantage.
The Hens lead by ten points at the end of the first half.
Monmouth started the second by going on a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to two points (24-22) with 6:52 remaining in the first half.
Delaware punched back by outscoring the Hawks 11-3 for the rest of the second quarter, taking a 35-25 lead into halftime.
UD trails by three points at the end of the third quarter.
Monmouth came out of halftime with renewed energy, as they outscored the Blue Hens 28-15 to take a 53-50 advantage into the fourth quarter. Damaris Rodriguez and Taisha Exanor caused problems for the University of Delaware’s defense by scoring 22 of the team’s 28 points.

After losing the lead in the third quarter, UD surged back in the final quarter by outscoring the Hawks 20-8 to seal a 70-61 victory. Chloe Wilson and Tara Cousins had the hot hand during this time, scoring 12 of the team’s 20 points.
