The Wilmington University women’s soccer team earned its ninth victory of the season on Wednesday, defeating the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans 3-1.
Game Recap:
Wilmington University takes home a 3-1 win!
The scoreboard would stay silent in the first half, as the two teams had a combined 13 shots but none of them found the net for a goal.
It was a different story in the second half, as Graduate forward Jordan Siok would get the scoring started and scored two straight goals to give her team a 2-0 lead around the 63-minute mark. Senior forward Alyssa Ruggeri assisted on the second goal and redshirt sophomore Evelyn Payne assisted on the first score.
Seconds later, after Siok’s second goal, St. Thomas Aquinas’ Isabella Diianni would get her team on the board with a score to slice the deficit to 2-1. Sarai Rodriguez assisted on Diianni’s goal.
Payne would seal the win around the 68-minute mark when she found the net to give the Cats a 3-1 victory over the Spartans. Ruggeri earned her second assist on the day on the score.
Stats and standouts:
The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were Jordan Siok, Alyssa Ruggeri, Evelyn Payne, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Isabella Mazzone, senior goalkeeper Mio Nakajima, and sophomore goalkeeper Arianna Myers.
Siok had three shots, two shots at the goal, and two goals in the win.
Ruggeri had two shots, one shot at the goal, and two assists in the victory.
Payne had two shots, two shots at the goal, and scored one goal, and one assist in the win.
Mazzone allowed zero goals in 10 minutes and 08 seconds in the game.
Nakajima allowed one goal in 34 minutes and 52 seconds in the win.
Myers allowed zero goals in 45 minutes in the game.
