Takanashi’s late goal gives Wilmington University a 3-2 win over Jefferson

The Wilmington University men’s soccer team earned their third victory of the season on Wednesday, with a 3-2 win over the Jefferson University Rams.

Wilmington University trails by one at the end of the first half.

Jefferson struck first in this match, as Diego Guzman scored a goal around the five-minute mark to give his team a 1-0 edge.

The Wildcats take home a 3-2 victory!

WilmU would tie the game up at one at the 55-minute mark when Redshirt freshman forward Jhamaleek Porter found the back of the net. Junior midfielder Tsubasa Abe assisted on Porter’s goal.

A minute later, Graduate student forward Theo Faillon gave the Cats a 2-1 lead when he scored off his own penalty kick rebound.

The Rams would charge back at the 62-minute mark when Diego Guzman would push in his second goal of the day to tie the game up at two.

In the later minutes of the second half, freshman forward Michiharu Takanashi would seal a 3-2 win for Wilmington when he found the net. Junior midfielder Alex Tarway assisted on Takanashi’s goal.

The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were Jhamaleek Porter, Theo Faillon, Tsubasa Abe, Alex Tarway, Michiharu Takanashi, and sophomore goalkeeper Charlie Phillips.

Porter had four shots, three shots at the goal, and one goal in the win.

Faillon had eight shots, six shots at the goal, and one goal in the victory.

Tarway had three shots, one shot at the goal, and one assist in the game.
