Wilmington University trails by four runs at the end of the first inning.
The Wildcats would strike first in the second game of the doubleheader, as the team would score with a double steal as Kory Pritchard stole second, and freshman outfielder Brandon Grygo took home to give their team a 1-0 edge in the top of the opening inning.
Chestnut Hill would answer back in a big way in the bottom of the inning by pushing in runs with a solo home run, two singles, a fielder’s choice, and a throwing error to take a 5-1 lead.
The Wildcats would trail by three runs at the end of the second inning.
WilmU cut the deficit to three runs(5-2) in the second inning when Junior catcher Nick Classie slapped an RBI double to center field.
WilmU trails by four runs at the end of the fifth inning.
The Griffins would push their lead back to four runs (6-2) in the bottom of the third inning when Christian Peluso smacked a solo home run to left field.
Wilmington University would continue to claw back in this game in the top of the fifth inning, as AJ Tropiano slugged a two-run homer to left field to slice the deficit to 6-4.
Chestnut Hill would continue to push the home runs out of the park, as the team would have two more solo homers in the bottom of the fifth to expand their advantage to 8-4.
The Wildcats take a four-lead at the end of the sixth inning.
WilmU would battle back in the top of the sixth inning where the team scored six runs on six hits and one error to take a 10-8 edge.
Some of the scoring highlights of the inning came when junior outfielder Sean Glatts hit a solo home run, Tyler Pirrung smacked a two-run homer to left field, a ground out pushed in a baserunner, and two runs scored on a fielding error.
Wilmington University takes home a 12-9 victory!
The Wildcats would widen their lead in the top of the seventh inning with a Tyler Pirrung RBI double and junior outfielder Trevor Adamo pushing home a run with a Sac Fly to give their team a 12-8 lead.
The Griffins would add one more run in the bottom of the seventh, but it would not be enough, as WilmU would still earn a 12-9 win.
Pitching Recap:
Senior starting pitcher Anthony Giordano went three innings, gave up seven hits, six runs, five earned runs, one walk, struck out four batters, and two home runs.
The bullpen consisted of three relievers, who combined to give up four hits, three runs, three earned runs, two walks, two home runs, and struck out five batters.
Freshman pitcher Garrett Quinn pitched one inning, gave up two hits, two runs, two earned runs, struck out two batters, two home runs, and earned the win.
Senior pitcher Dom Grady closed out the game, as he went two innings, gave up one hit, one run, one earned run, two walks, struck out three batters, and earned the save.
