Wilmington University pushes winning streak to 16 with sweep over Molloy

Wilmington University leads by one run at the end of the third inning.

Neither lineup could get a rhythm in the first two innings to score, as the two only combined to get one hit during that time.

But that would all change in the third, as WilmU got on the board with a Molloy error to take a 1-0 lead. 

The score happened when senior shortstop Lexi Moore reached first base on a fielding error and then advanced to second, and then Junior outfielder Tristyn Stewart scored on the play.

WilmU would tie the game at three runs at the end of the fourth inning.

The Lions responded in a big way in the top of the fourth, as they scored three runs on four hits to take a 3-1 edge.

One of the key highlights for Molloy in the inning came when Emily McGurk smacked a two-run double to right field.

Wilmington would answer back in the bottom of the inning with senior outfielder Isabella Eleazar and senior first baseman Julia Thuer, each hitting an RBI double to tie the score at three.

Wilmington University takes home a 5-4 win!

The Lions would take the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Natalie Moussa knocked a RBI single to left field to take the score to 4-3.

WilmU would answer in a big way in the bottom of the inning, as the team scored two runs on two hits and one error to grab a 5-4 advantage.

Sam Freeland would push in the first run of the fifth as she hit an RBI single through the right side to tie the score at four.

Three plays later, Freeland would score on Molloy’s error to give her team a 5-4 lead.

Pitching Recap:

Redshirt sophomore starting pitcher Delani Sheehan went 4.1 innings, gave up seven hits, three runs, three earned runs, one walk, and struck out two batters.

The bullpen consisted of two relievers, who combined to give up four hits and one run, one earned run and one walk.

Senior pitcher Haley Downin closed out the game, as she went two innings, gave up one hit, and earned the win.
