Goldey-Beacom picks up win over Trevecca Nazarene to earn a split on Thursday

The Goldey-Beacom College softball team would win one of their two games on Thursday, as the team won 3-1 over the Trevecca Nazarene University in the early match, and fell 4-2 to Queens College (NY) in the second matchup.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom trails by one run at the end of the third inning.

Neither lineup could get anything going versus the opposing starting pitchers as Trevecca Nazarene’s Alex Behnke and The Lightning’s senior  Abigail O’Shields gave up zero hits in the first two innings of this game.

The silence on the scoreboard would end in the bottom of the third inning, where the Trojans would score one run on one hit to take a 1-0 lead.

Anna Bennett would serve up the first hit of the game in this inning as she slapped a triple to right field.

Callie Williams would be the next batter up, and she would allow Bennett to score when she grounded out to second base to put the score at 1-0.

The Lightning leads by one run after the sixth inning.

GBC batters were in a funk for five innings before they would get their first two hits of the game in the top of the sixth, where the team scored two runs to grab a 2-1 edge.

Freshman Utility player McKenna Frank would get the first hit of the match for Goldey-Beacom as she hit a single to left center field. Senior outfielder Hannah Davis would follow up Frank’s hit by getting on a base with a walk.

Two plays later, junior infielder Bryn Bohmann stepped up to the plate and slapped a two-run single into left field to give her team a 2-1 advantage.

Goldey-Beacom takes home a 3-1 victory!

The Lightning would add one more run to their lead in the top of the sixth when junior pitcher Morgan McLane pinched hit for sophomore outfielder Delaney Insinga, and she would RBI single to the shortstop to push her team’s edge to 3-1.

Senior starting pitcher Abigail O’Shields had her way with the Trevecca Nazarene hitters in this win, as she went seven innings, gave up one run, one earned run, three hits, three walks, and struck out six batters.
