Taalib Holloman scores 21 points as Wilmington University earns first win of the season with victory over West Chester

Wilmington University would trail by four at the end of the first half.

The game started with West Chester coming out hot as the team took a 14-7 lead with 14:35 left in the opening half.

Seconds later, WilmU would respond by going on a 10-0 run to grab a 17-14 advantage with 11:36 remaining in the first half. Senior guard LJ Carter was seeing the basket clearly during this stretch, as he scored six of the team’s ten points.

Fast forward to the 4:10 minute mark, where the Golden Rams Jordan Kellier would have a layup go in and then drain a free throw to give his team a 31-26 edge.

Taalib Holloman would score six of the Wildcats’ last eight points in the final minutes of the first half to cut the deficit to four points (38-34) heading into halftime.

WilmU takes home an 85-79 victory!

Wilmington would come out ready to strike in the second half, as the team went on a 14-9 run to take a 48-47 lead with 16:12 left in the game. Taalib Holloman, Skip Burton, and Caleb Matthews would score ten of the 14 points during that stretch.

Fast forward to the 6:17 minute mark, where the two teams were locked in a back-and-forth for the lead, and West Chester’s Joshua Walker would hit a layup to grab a 69-68 edge.

In the next five minutes and three seconds, the Wildcats would outscore the Golden Rams 12-8 to take an 80-77 advantage with 1:14 remaining in the game. Burton was the leader of the run, as he scored five of the 12 points during that time.

Wilmington’s defense played a key part in the run, as they had two steals, four defensive rebounds, and one block.

WilmU would score five more points for the rest of the game to seal an 85-79 victory over West Chester.
