The Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team opened up their season on Friday with a high-scoring 113-109 victory over the Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks.
Sophomore forward Zayon Marsh led Goldey-Beacom in scoring in the win with 24 points.
Four other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were sophomore forward Caleb Bates (20), junior guard Cardin Joubert (19), senior guard Nazim Derry, and senior guard Ayshion Centeno.
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (58-44), second-chance points (17-15), rebounds (39-37), and assists (21-19).
Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 59.1% (39-66) and Roberts Wesleyan shooting 50.6%(39-77). The Lightning also bested the Redhawks from the three-point line, with the team shooting 60.0%(9-15) and Roberts Wesleyan shooting 46.7% (14-30). Goldey-Beacom was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 74.3%(26-35), and the Redhawks shot 70.8%(17-24).
