Randy Rickards last-second layup gives Wilmington University a 69-67 win over Chestnut Hill

Wilmington University would lead by four points at the end of the first half.

The game started with the Wildcats dashing out to a 5-0 advantage with 18:51 left in the opening half. Justin Thomas would drain a three-point shot during the run.

Forty seconds later, Chestnut Hill would start to wake up, as the team scored six unanswered points to take a 6-5 lead with 16:19 remaining in the first half.

It did not take WilmU long to answer back, as almost a minute later, they would score eight straight points to grab a 13-6 edge with 14:19 left in the opening half.

The Griffins kept punching back, as the team would go on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 15 with 9:23 remaining in the opening quarter.

Fast forward to the 2:54 minute mark, where Chestnut Hill’s Trevonn Pitts hit the basket hard for a slam dunk to give his team a 32-24 lead.

Ten seconds later, Wilmington would respond by scoring 12 unanswered points to take back a 36-32 edge at the end of the first half. Junior guard Caleb Matthews was the star of this run, as he had two steals, three assists, and three points.

WilmU wins 69-67!

The Griffins would come out in the early minutes of the second half on fire, as the team outscored the Wildcats 14-5 to take a 46-41 lead with 16:17 left in the game.

Seventeen seconds later, Wilmington would rally back by scoring nine straight points to grab a 50-46 advantage with 13:40 remaining in the second half. Amiri Stewart was the leading man on this run, as he scored three points with one block and one rebound.

The lead did not last long for WilmU, as starting at the 12:12 minute mark, Chestnut Hill would go on a 7-0 run to give their team a 53-50 edge with 11:19 left on the clock in the game.

Fast forward to the 5:28 minute mark, where the Wildcats’ Stewart would get a layup to go in to push the team’s lead to six points (65-59).

Eighteen seconds later, the Griffins would tear away at WilmU’s advantage by scoring seven straight points to take a 66-65 edge with 3:27 left in the game.

Then, at the 1:16 minute mark, Amiri would back it again by hitting a layup to put the Wildcats up by one point (67-66).

The lead did not last long as five seconds later, Chestnut Hill would tie the game up at 67 with a made free throw shot.

At the seven-second mark, Justin Thomas would find Randy Rickards, who had a layup to go in to give Wilmington a 69-67 win over the Griffins.
