CACC Quarterfinals: Romero’s late goal lifts Wilmington past Jefferson 2-1

The game tied at one after one half of play.

The scoring in this playoff game would come quickly as the first goal would come at the 4:06 minute mark when Mads-Emil Roestbjaerg found teammate Tajhay Williams, who fired the ball into the back of the net to give Wilmington University a 1-0 lead.

Twenty-six minutes and 11 seconds later, Jefferson’s third shot of the game would be their money attempt, as Diego Guzman found the back of the net to tie the game at one.

Wilmington outshot the Rams 11-4 in the first half of this game.

Wilmington University wins 2-1!

In the first 35 minutes of the second half, the Wildcats had no problem firing shots, with the team having 12 attempts, but none of them found the net for a score.

The 13th shot attempt of the second half would be the one lucky one for WilmU, as Richard Thompson found Pol Romero, who blasted the ball in the back of the net to seal a 2-1 win for his team.

Wilmington outshot Jefferson 14-3 in the second half.

The Wildcats will face Post University in the CACC semifinals on Friday.
