Goldey-Beacom hits five home runs in 12-6 win over Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom trails by one run after one inning

Wednesday’s game did not waste any time getting runs on the scoreboard as Wilmington would etch two runs in the top of the first inning.

Wilmington’s John Mead would bat in the first two runs by hitting a two RBI-single. On the same play, Goldey-Beacom’s Demetrius Johnson fielding error allowed Mead to advance to second base. The third run in the top of the first inning came from WilmU’s Shawn Haut, who hit an RBI double down the left-field line.

Goldey-Beacom would respond in the bottom of the first inning by scoring two runs to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Lightning’s first run of the game would come when sophomore infielder Garrett Musey hit an RBI double down the right-field line to cut the lead to 3-1. In the next play, junior designated hitter Johnny Kampes would ground out, but it would allow Marshall Awtry to score to trim the lead to 3-2.

Goldey-Beacom would tie the game in the bottom of the second inning when Mason Maxwell hit an RBI single up the middle of the field.

All tied up at five after five innings

In the top of the fourth inning, the Wildcats would strike back by scoring two runs to take a 5-3 lead.

Wilmington’s first run of the fourth inning came when Nick Nocella stole home to give his team a 4-3 lead. The next run in the inning came when Matt Warrington struck out swinging, but Erik Grady would score on a wild pitch to give WilmU a 5-3 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the power of Goldey-Beacom’s bats came alive as the home runs came flying to tie the game at five.

Marlon Lindsey Jr. would knock in the first home run of the inning by hitting a homer to left-center, cutting the lead to 5-4. Braden Kolmansberger would be the next batter as he would hit a solo home run to left field to tie the game at five.

Lightning leads by five runs after seven innings

WilmU would answer back in the top of the sixth inning by Adrian Jimenez’s hitting an RBI single up the middle to give his team a 6-5 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the home runs would continue to fly out of the park for the Lightning as the team hit two to take an 8-6 lead.

Mason Maxwell would start the scoring off in the inning by hitting a two-run homer to center field to give Goldey-Beacom a 7-6 lead. Marshall Awtry would be the next batter up, as he hit a solo home run to left-center to give his team an 8-6 lead.

The Lightning would add three more runs to their lead in the bottom of the seventh inning to hold an 11-6 advantage.

Braden Kolmansberger would knock in the first run of the seventh inning, as he hit an RBI double to left field to give his team a 9-6 lead. Two batters later, junior right fielder Connor Megginson would fly out to the right field, which allowed Kolmansberger to score to expand Goldey’s a 10-6 lead.

Sophomore third baseman Kyle Walker would be the next batter up, as he hit an RBI double down the left line, which gave his team an 11-6 advantage.

Goldey-Beacom win 12-6!

After seven innings, the Lightning’s starting pitcher Anthony DiMartino’s day was done, as he gave up eight hits, six runs, five earned runs, four strikeouts, hit two batters, two walks, and earned the win.

Tommy Federici would come into the game to relieve DiMartino, as he went two innings, gave up two walks, and two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Goldey-Beacom would add another run to their lead when Marlon Lindsey Jr hit a two-out solo home run to left field, which extended their lead to 12-6.

In the top of the ninth inning, it was all up to Federici to shut the door on the 12-6 win, which he did just that as he gave up one walk, had one strikeout, ground out, and had a batter fly out.
