Goldey-Beacom leads by one run after one inning of play
After a quiet top of the first inning by the Shock, the Lightning would bring the noise in the bottom of the inning by getting two hits and scoring one run.
Bianca Newsom would get the action started for Goldey-Beacom in the bottom of the first by hitting a triple to center field. Jaeda Henriquez would step up to the plate next, as she hit a single to center field, which would send Newsom home to give their team a 1-0 lead.
The Lightning batters would strike again in the bottom of the second inning, as the team used their speed and Washington Adventist miscues to gain another run to the scoreboard.
Kayla Vaillancourt would start the action in the second inning by hitting a single to the Shock’s shortstop. She would follow that up by stealing second base.
Two batters later, Carly Setting would reach first base on a dropped fly by Washington’s left field, which would allow Vaillancourt to score to give Goldey-Beacom a 2-0 advantage.
Lightning adds another run in the fourth inning
Two innings later, The Lightning lineup would add some more cushion to their lead as they pushed in another run to take a 3-0 lead.
Carly Setting would push in the lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning by hitting an RBI single.
Goldey-Beacom wins 6-1!
After pitching five shutout innings, Goldey-Beacom’s Morgan McLane would surrender her first run of the game in the sixth inning. It happened when the Shock’s Infinity Chacon would reach base on a dropped fly ball by the Lightning’s Jaeda Henriquez, which allowed a run to score to cut the lead to 3-1.
The Goldey-Beacom’s batters would answer back in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring three runs to extend their lead to 6-1.
Junior catcher Lexi Thomas would start the action on the bases by earning a walk. Kayla Vaillancourt would step up to the plate next, as she hit a single, which would move Thomas to second base. Two batters later, Carly Setting would hit a single, which would have the bases loaded for the Lightning.
Bianca Newsom would be up next, as she hit a two-out single to the pitcher, which would send home Thomas to expand Goldey’s lead to 4-1.
On the next play, Henriquez would reach base on a fielding error by Washington Adventist’s shortstop, which allowed Setting and Vaillancourt to score to give their team a 6-1 lead.
After six innings, starting pitcher Morgan McLane’s day was done, as she gave up three hits, one run, one earned run, three strikeouts, and earned the win.
Devon Ellixson would come in for McLane, as she was able to get two ground outs, and a player to fly out to seal the 6-1 win.
