CAA Finals: Blue Hens earn CAA Championship title, will face #4 Maryland in the NCAA Tournament

The University of Delaware Women’s basketball team punched their ticket to the big dance (NCAA Tournament) as they defeated the Drexel University Dragons 63-59. This is the third time, the Hens have won the conference title, but the first since the 2013 season. History was also made for the school as this will be the first time that both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will be competing in the NCAA Tournament in the same season. The University of Delaware will be matched up with #4 Maryland in the first round of the tournament.

Senior guard/forward Jasmine Dickey was the leading scorer for the Blue Hens as she had 27 points. Dickey also had a double-double in the win as she collected 18 rebounds with her 27 points. The senior guard/forward was also named Most Outstanding Player in the CAA Tournament.

Sophomore guard Tyi Skinner also scored in double-digits in the win as she had ten points.

Redshirt senior forward Ty Battle led the team in rebounds on the day with 12.

Battle and Dickey were also named to the CAA All-Tournament team.

Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in this game, which included bench points (4-3), rebounds (47-34), assists (13-12), and blocks (2-0).

Blue Hens also had the advantage in shooting as well, with the team shooting 40.0 % (22-50) and with Drexel shooting 31.7 % (20-63). The Hens bested the Dragons from the three-point line as well, with the team shooting 47.1 % (8-17) and Drexel shooting 17.4 %(4-23).
