DSU scores one run in the fifth inning
The first run of the game would come in the top of the fifth inning as Delaware State’s John Weglarz would hit a double to left field, which would score his teammate Miguel Rivera. Rivera’s run would give the Hornets a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning.
After throwing four scoreless innings, DSU’s pitcher Cole Bates’s scoreless streak would end in the fifth inning when Norfolk State’s Cody Donnell hit an RBI single to left field, which tied the game at one.
Delaware State also made a couple of mistakes that inning which helped the Spartans score. The Hornets had a throwing error and passed ball in the bottom of the fifth, which helped the Norfolk State runners advance.
Spartans take the lead in the sixth
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Ty Hanchey would hit an RBI single to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead.
Delaware State ties the game in the eighth inning
The top of the eighth inning started with Cole Garey hitting a double to the right of center field. Arthur Burrell would then come in the game and pinch-run for Garey. On the next play, Burrell would advance to third base on a wild pitch.
The next batter up would be Brady Daniels, who grounded out to second base, but that would allow Burrell to score to tie the game up at two.

Hornets get the win in extra innings
Cole Bates would get back on track after giving up his last run in the sixth inning as he followed that up with three scoreless innings to keep the game tied.
Bates would leave after pitching all nine innings, as he gave up six hits, two runs, one earned run, and five strikeouts.
Ethan Edelson came in for Bates in the 10th inning as he went one inning, gave up one hit, one walk, one strikeout, and earned the win.
In the top of the 11th inning, the DSU hitters found a spark that would lead to two runs on the board.
The 11th inning started with Brady Daniels hitting a double to right-center field, and then the next batter, Mark Herron would get hit by a pitch.
Tripp Kimmel would get intentionally walked, which made the bases loaded for the Hornets.
John Weglarz would be the next batter as he would earn a walk which pushed in Daniels to give Delaware State a 3-2 lead in the 11th inning.
Trey Paige would step up to the plate as he would hit a single, which would score Herron to give their team a 4-2 lead in the top of the 11th.
The last run of the game came when Krew Bouldin was hit by a pitch that would allow Kimmel to score to give DSU a 5-2 lead.

In the bottom of the 11th inning, it was all up to Delaware State’s pitcher Chandler Fitzgerald to close the door on the win, which he did just that as he went one inning, hit one batter and earned the save.
