DSU scores one run in the first inning
The top of the first inning started with DSU’s Jasmine Melgoza hitting a single to the right side of the field. Melgoza would advance to third base on Nicolette Barranger’s sac bunt.
After the sac bunt, Caitlin Meyer would hit a double to the left-center field, which would score Melgoza to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
Howard ties the game up in the second inning
Maikyla Nelson’s only blemish in this game came when she allowed Howard’s Shayna Swanson to hit a single to left field, which scored Savanna Rainey to tie the game up at one.
Meyer adds two runs to Hornets lead in the third inning
The top of the third inning started just like the top of the first inning as Jasmine Melgoza would hit a single to get on base. Melgoza would then steal second base.
Two batters later, Caitlin Meyer would hit a two-run home run, which would score Melgoza and herself to give Delaware State a 3-1 lead.

After the top of the third inning, Maikyla Nelson would pitch five scoreless innings, which would seal a 3-1 win for DSU over Howard.
