Sara Miller records six RBIs in Wilmington University’s sweep of Bloomfield

The Wilmington University softball picked up two wins on Wednesday as the team swept the Bloomfield College Bears 9-0 (Game One) and 10-0 (Game Two).

Let’s open with their first win of the day!

Game Recap:

Wilmington University leads by three runs at the end of the first inning.

The Wildcats would light up the scoreboard first in this game, as the team scored three runs on three hits and one error to take a 3-0 edge in the bottom of the opening inning. 

Senior right fielder Sara Miller would step up to the plate with bases loaded, and she would push a run in when she was issued a walk to give the Cats a 1-0 lead.

Junior outfielder Gabriella Saucedo would come up to bat next, as she would push in two runs with a Sac Fly to center field to give her team a 3-0 advantage.

The Wildcats hold an eight-run lead at the end of the third inning.

WilmU would continue to expand their lead in the third, as the team scored five runs on three hits and one error to take an 8-0 lead.

Sara Miller would start the scoring in the inning, as she smoked a RBI triple to right field and then was able to go home herself from a throwing error by Bloomfield’s second baseman to give her team a 5-0 edge.

Five batters later, senior first baseman Julia Thuer would hit an RBI single to center field to push the score to 6-0.

Junior outfielder Tristyn Stewart would be the next to come up to bat, as she slapped a two-run single to left center to give her team a 9-0 advantage.

Wilmington University takes home a 9-0 win!

The Wildcats would add one last run in the bottom of the fourth when junior catcher Emma Zimmerman hit an RBI single to center field to take the score 9-0.

Pitching Recap:

Junior starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel dominated the Bears hitters in this win, as she went five innings, gave up one hit, and struck out four batters.
