Walk off, winner! : Goldey-Beacom picks up thrilling extra-inning comeback victory over Wilmington University

The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team picked up their 28th win of the season when they took home a 10-9 walk-off victory over the Wilmington University Wildcats.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom trails by six runs at the end of the fourth inning.

Wilmington would strike first in this game, as the team scored three runs on four hits and three errors to take a 3-0 edge in the top of the second inning.

The Wildcats would continue to widen their lead in the third inning, as Sean Glatts would knock a two-run single to second base to give his team a 5-0 advantage.

WilmU would add another run in the top of the fourth when Kory Pritchard pushed in a run with a Sac Fly to take the score to 6-0.

The Lightning would trail by three runs at the end of the sixth inning.

Goldey-Beacom would finally get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning when Junior outfielder Mitch Jolikko slugged a three-run homer to right field to cut the deficit to 6-3.

GBC would trail by six runs at the end of the seventh inning.

Wilmington would respond in the top of the seventh inning with Sean Glatts pushing in a run with a Sac Fly, Nick Classie hitting an RBI sac bunt, and Erik Grady scoring on a throwing error from the pitcher to give their team a 9-3 advantage.

Goldey-Beacom would trail by three runs at the end of the eighth inning.

The Lightning would cut the Wildcats lead to three (9-6) in the bottom of the eighth inning when the team scored three runs on two hits and two errors.

Junior infielder Dante DiSabatino would get the scoring started in the inning when he pushed a base runner home when he first base on a fielding error by WilmU’s second baseman to slice the score to 9-4.

Four plays later, Junior infielder Braden Kolmansberger would power a two-run single through the left side to cut the deficit to 9-6.

The Lightning pushes the game to extra innings by tying it in the ninth.

Goldey-Beacom would continue to roll in the bottom of the ninth, as the team would score three runs on three hits to tie the game at nine.

Mitch Jolikko started the scoring in the inning by hitting his fifth RBI of the game by smoking a two-run double to left-center to take the score to 9-8.

Dante DiSabatino would come up to bat next, as he hit an RBI single up the middle to tie the game up at nine.

Goldey-Beacom takes home a walk-off 10-9 win!

The bottom of the tenth inning didn’t start out so hot for the Lightning as the first two batters would strike out.

But then things turned around as senior second baseman Kyle Walker hit a single, sophomore outfielder Anthony Charles walked, and Mitch Jolikko earned a walk.

GBC would win the game on a wild pitch, as Mitch Jolikko advanced to second and Kyle Walker scored the game-winning run to give his team a 10-9 comeback victory.

Pitching Recap:

Senior pitcher Jake Kelchner went five innings, gave up ten hits, six runs, three earned runs, two walks, struck out one batter, and hit one batter.

The bullpen consisted of four relievers, who combined to give up four hits, three runs, two walks, hit two batters, and struck out four batters.

Junior pitcher Gage Bendix closed out the game by going 1.1 innings, gave up one hit, struck out three batters, and earned the win.
