Grady & Classie combine for 6 RBIs in Wilmington University’s 14-4 victory over Millersville

The Wilmington University baseball team moved their record to 11-7 with a 14-4 victory over the Millersville University Marauders on Wednesday.

Game Recap:

Wilmington University leads by two runs at the end of the third inning.

The two lineups in this matchup would combine for three hits in the first two innings of this game, with no runners finding their way home.

But that would all change in the third, as the two teams combined for five hits and six runs.

 Millersville would get the scoring started in this game, as the team scored two runs on one hit and an error to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

WilmU would punch back in the bottom of the inning by scoring four runs on four hits to take a 4-2 edge.

Junior outfielder Kory Pritchard would get the scoring started for the Cats, as he would push a run in with a Sac fly to center field to slice the deficit to 2-1.

Senior designated hitter Jack McDonald stepped up to the plate next, as he slapped an RBI single to right field to tie the game at two.

Sophomore first baseman Mason DeLuca would be the next batter up, as he hit an RBI double to left center to give his team a 3-2 edge.

Junior outfielder Cam Trego would continue the scoring party as he knocked an RBI single through the right side to push Wilmington’s advantage to 4-2.

WilmU leads by four runs at the end of the fourth inning.

The Wildcats would get some breathing room in their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Junior catcher Nick Classie smacked a two-run homer to right field to give his team a 6-2 edge.

The Wildcats lead by nine runs at the end of the fifth inning.

WilmU would continue to post the runs in bunches in the bottom of the fifth inning, where the team scored five runs on one hit and two errors to take an 11-2 advantage.

Three of the first five batters that reached base in the fifth would get on by a walk (Trego) or hit by a pitch (DeLuca & Pirrung ).

Mason DeLuca would score the first run of the inning when he stole home to give Wilmington a 7-2 lead.

Two plays later, Cam Trego would go home as he scored on a wild pitch to push his team’s advantage to 8-2.

Senior second baseman Erik Grady would push three runs in when he hit a double to take the score to 11-2.

Wilmington University takes home a 14-4 win!

After being silenced for two innings, the Marauders bats would wake up, as Justin Taylor would slap a RBI single to center field to slice the deficit to 11-3.

WilmU would answer back in the bottom of the inning with Kory Pritchard scoring on a wild pitch, sophomore infielder Tyler Pirrung would walk in a baserunner home, and Nick Classie would get an RBI when he grounded out to second base to give their team a 14-3 lead.

 Millersville would add one last run to their total in the top of the seventh inning, but the Wildcats would still win 14-4.

Pitching Recap:

Freshman starting pitcher Chase Fleming would pitch three innings, gave up three hits, two runs, one walk, and struck out five batters.

The bullpen consisted of six relievers, who combined to give up seven hits, two runs, two earned runs, four walks, and struck out five batters.

Graduate student pitcher Derek Huff went one inning, gave up one walk and earned the win.
