The Wilmington University baseball team defeated the Caldwell University Cougars 14-4 on Sunday to move their record to 15-7 on the season.

Wilmington University leads by four runs at the end of the third inning.
The Wildcats would light the scoreboard up first in this game when Junior outfielder D’Angelo Ponce was sent home on a fielder’s choice from Junior shortstop/pitcher Garrett Quinn in the top of the second inning.
Junior outfielder/pitcher Brandon Grygo was the next batter up, and he pushed the score to 2-0 with an RBI single.
Two plays later, Senior infielder Tyler Pirrung got a runner home with a SAC Fly to take the Cats’ edge to 3-0.
In the top of the third, Ponce would make some noise again, when he knocked a RBI single through the left side to extend WilmU’s advantage to 4-0.
The Wildcats take home a 14-4 win!
Wilmington’s offense exploded in the fourth inning, where the team scored ten runs on 11 hits, four stolen bases, two walks, and one error to give them a 14-0 lead.
Sophomore catcher/designated hitter Jordan Santiago started off the scoring in the top of the fourth by hitting a two-run single to left field to give his team a 6-0 edge.
Also, Senior outfielder Cam Trego, Garrett Quinn, and Tyler Pirrung each had an RBI triple in the inning for WilmU.
Freshman third baseman/pitcher Ryan Kiendle and junior infielder/pitcher Chase Fleming each had an RBI single in the top of the fourth. D’Angelo Ponce hit two RBI singles in the inning for Wilmington.
Garrett Quinn also scored in the inning on a fielding error by the Cougars second baseman.
Caldwell would score two runs each in the fifth and the seventh, but the Cats would still take home a dominating 14-4 win.
Pitching Recap:
Wilmington University used four pitchers in this game, including freshman Brody Gebhard, who went five innings, gave up two hits, two runs, and two earned runs, struck out six, and earned the win.
