The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team earned a sweep on Saturday with a 13-10 win over the Caldwell University Cougars in the first game and an 8-1 victory in the second matchup.

Game Recap GM1:
The Lightning would trail by three runs at the end of the fourth inning.
Caldwell wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard as the team scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Goldey-Beacom didn’t score its first run of the game until the top of the second inning, when junior outfielder Trey Mason hit a RBI single to slice the deficit to 3-1.
The Cougars responded in the third with an RBI double to boost their edge back to three runs (4-1) in the third inning.
Each team would score a run in the fourth inning, but Caldwell would still hold a 5-2 advantage in the game.
Goldey-Beacom takes the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.
In the fifth inning, the offense of the Lightning exploded, as they scored six runs on three hits, and three walks to grab an 8-5 lead.
Junior infielder Bobby Stewart started the scoring off by sending two baserunners home with an RBI single down the right side.
Two plays later, Trey Mason smoked a ball to left field for a grand slam ( 4 RBIs) to give his team an 8-5 advantage.
Caldwell takes a one-run lead at the end of the seventh inning.
In the top of the sixth inning, Sophomore infielder Zach Smethers pushed GBC’s lead to four (9-5) with an RBI single to left field.
Caldwell would come climbing back as they scored a combined five runs on four hits and six walks to take a 10-9 edge at the end of the seventh.
GBC takes home a 13-10 win!
The ball started flying for the. Lightning, as Zach Smethers hit a two-run homer in the eighth, and then sophomore infielder Jaime Neris Jr. and sophomore infielder Owen Knerr hit solo jacks in the ninth to seal a 13-10 victory.
Pitching Recap:
Goldey-Beacom used four pitchers in the game, including senior pitcher Tommy Federici, who pitched 2.2 innings, gave up two walks, struck out four, and earned the win.
Game Recap GM2:
Goldey-Beacom leads by one after the sixth inning.
Sophomore designated hitter Jake Macey would get the scoring started in the second game by hitting an RBI double in the top of the second to give the Bolts a 1-0 edge.
Fast forward to the top of the sixth, where Bobby Stewart would push a run home with an RBI SAC bunt to give the Lightning a 2-0 advantage.
Caldwell would cut the lead to one (2-1) in the bottom of the sixth with a SAC Fly.
The Lightning take home an 8-1 win!
In the seventh inning, Goldey-Beacom would seal a win by scoring six runs on three hits and one error to give the team an 8-1 victory.
Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Roman Keith lit the offensive fire in the inning by slamming a two-run double down the left side.
Two plays later, Jamie Neris Jr. would score on an error by Caldwell’s shortstop to push the score 5-1.
A couple of plays later, Zach Smethers walked up to the plate and hit a three-run bomb out of the park to seal an 8-1 win.
Pitching Recap:
Senior pitcher Connor Blence earned the win, as he went six innings, gave up four hits, one run, one earned run, and struck out eight
