The Delaware State University women’s basketball team earned its fifth win of the season on Saturday with a dominating 74-59 victory over the Morgan State Lady Bears.
The leading scorer in DSU’s win was Junior guard Jermesha Frierson, who had 20 points.
Freshman guard Amya Scott also scored in double-digits in the game, scoring 15 points.
Delaware State had the advantage in multiple categories during the game, including points in the paint (40-28), fast-break points (22-7), steals (7-3), assists (13-11), and rebounds (34-29).
DSU also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 53%(29-55) and Morgan State 42%(20-48). Delaware State also outshot the Lady Bears from the three-point line, with the team shooting 27% (4-15) and Morgan State shooting 21% (3-14).

The Hornets started this game off fast by jumping out to an 11-2 edge with 6:22 left in the opening period. Jermesha Frierson and Sophomore forward Ericka Huggins led the charge by scoring nine of the 11 points.
Morgan State would climb back in the game by outscoring DSU 11-10 to bring the deficit to eight points (21-13) at the end of the first quarter.
The Hornets hold an eight-point lead at the end of the first half.
It was the Toni Smith show in the second quarter as the Lady Bears could not find a way to stop the Delaware State freshman guard, as she scored six of the team’s 15 points to help them take a 36-28 advantage into halftime. Senior guard Nykesha Sanders knew who to get it to get a bucket, as she collected three assists in the second quarter.
DSU leads by six at the end of the third quarter.
In the third quarter, it was Amya Scott and Jermesha Frierson leading the way with the duo scoring 11 of the team’s 17 points to have the Hornets edging out the Lady Bears 53-47 heading into the final quarter.

DSU exploded in the fourth quarter, going on a 21-12 run to seal a 74-59 win. Freshman center Liliana Harrison, Jermesha Frierson, and Amya Scott led the charge by scoring 17 of the 21 points.
