Goldey-Beacom Blanks Mercy, Franklin Pierce for Saturday Sweep

The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team earned a sweep on Saturday with a 1-0 win over the Franklin Pierce University Ravens in the first game and a 7-0 victory in the second game over the  Mercy University Mavericks.

Game Recap GM1:

The Lightning take home a 1-0 win!

Pitching was the theme of the day for the Bolts, and it all started in the first game, where senior pitcher Kory Williams threw six scoreless innings, gave up three hits, and struck out five. Sophomore pitcher Zach Davis would continue the domination on the mound by closing out the game with three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out one to earn the save.

The only run in the game came in the first inning when sophomore infielder Owen Knerr hit a RBI single to give Goldey-Beacom a 1-0 lead, which would end up being the winning score.

Game Recap GM2:

The Lightning leads by two runs in the fourth inning.

In the second game, the GBC bats woke up, and it all started in the second inning with Owen Knerr earning an RBI on a Sac Fly and junior infielder Bobby Stewart pushing in a run with an RBI single, giving their team a 2-0 edge.

GBC leads by three runs in the sixth inning.

Stewart would be back at the top of the sixth, where he hit an RBI single to extend Goldey-Beacom’s lead to three.

Goldey-Beacom leads by four runs after the eighth inning.

Owen Kneer continued his big day by knocking in another run in top of the sixth, with an RBI double to give the Lightning a 4-0 advantage.

The Lightning take home a 7-0 win!

GBC added three more runs in the ninth when Sophomore infielders Zach Smethers, Max Lopuhovsky, and Owen Kneer all hit RBI singles to seal a 7-0 victory over Mercy.

Pitching Recap:

Goldey-Beacom used five pitchers in the game, including senior pitcher Nate Miller, who pitched six scoreless innings, gave up two hits, three walks, and struck out three in the win.
