Goldey-Beacom’s winning streak moves to seven with 104-96 win over Dominican (N.Y.)

The  Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team has now won seven games in a row with a 104-96 win over the Dominican University of New York Chargers.

Junior forward Julian Williams led the Lightning in scoring in the win, with 24 points.

Three other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were Sophomore guard Tre Powell (19), Senior guard Justin Allen (19), and Sophomore guard Brian Blanchet(11).

The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (38-30), bench points (38-36), rebounds (36-28), and turnovers (13-16).

Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 52.9%(37-70) and Dominican shooting 51.7%(26-70). The Lightning was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 81.8% (18-22), and the Chargers shot 76.7% (23-30).

Goldey-Beacom leads by ten points at the end of the first half.

The Lightning did not waste any time putting up points in the early minutes of this game, as the team took a 20-6 edge with 13:19 left in the opening period.  Julian Williams led the charge, scoring eight of the team’s 20 points.

Fast forward to the 6:30 minute mark, Justin Allen drained a three-pointer to extend GBC’s advantage to 39-23.

Williams was strong for Goldey down the stretch, scoring eight of the team’s final 11 points to help them take a 50-40 lead into halftime.

The Lightning takes home a 104-96 win!

Fast forward to the 10:20 minute mark, where the Lightning’s Junior guard Elisha Brown scored four straight points to give the team a 78-59 edge.

Dominican charged back by going on a 21-7 run to tighten the deficit to five points (85-80) with 6:22 left in the game.

GBC punched back, outscoring the Chargers 14-7 to extend their advantage to 99-87 with one minute left in the fourth. Justin Allen, Sophomore guard Anthony Akande, and Julian Williams had the Chargers defenders confused during that stretch, scoring 12 of the team’s 14 points.

Goldey-Beacom scored five more points to seal a 104-96 win over Dominican.
