Five Goldey-Beacom players score in double-digits in 98-87 victory over Holy Family

The  Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team earned its 12th win of the season on Tuesday with a 98-87 victory over the Holy Family University Tigers.

Junior guard Elisha Brown led the team in scoring in the win with 21 points.

Four other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were Sophomore guard Tre Powell (18), Junior forward Julian Williams (15), Junior guard/forward Emarquis Jones (14), and Senior guard Justin Allen (13).

The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included second chance points (18-13), points in the paint (46-32), points off of turnovers (26-18), steals (11-8), fast-break points (13-6), turnovers (13-17), assists (18-14), and rebounds (40-34).

Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 52.2% (35-67) and Holy Family shooting 46.6% (27-58).

Goldey-Beacom leads by six points at the end of the first half.

The Lightning was finding buckets early as the team took a 14-9 edge with 15:03 remaining in the opening half. Emarquis Jones and Tre Powell led the way by scoring eight of the team’s 14 points.

Fast forward to the 10:14 minute mark, where Justin Allen nailed a three-pointer to give GBC a 25-16 advantage.

Holy Family narrowed the gap to two points (32-30) by outscoring Goldey-Beacom 14-7 in the next five minutes and 52 seconds.

The Lightning wouldn’t lose the lead as they outscored the Tigers 9-5 for the rest of the first half to put the score at 41-35.

GBC takes home a 98-87 win!

Goldey-Beacom’s grew to nine in the second half as Justin Allen drained a three-pointer to put the score at 58-49 with 15:27 remaining in the game.

Elisha Brown, Tre Powell, Julian Williams, and Justin Fields stepped up for the rest of the second half, scoring 38 of the team’s 43 points to seal the 98-87 win.
