The University of Delaware women’s basketball team improved to 6-4 on Saturday with a dominating 75-56 win over the Akron Zips.
Senior guard Ella Wanzer led the team in scoring in the win, with 25 points. Wanzer made nine of her 16 shots in the game. She also nailed seven of ten attempts at the three-point line.
Freshman guard Kailah Correa also scored in double-digits in the game, as she had 18 points.
UD had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (32-28), fast-break points (11-2), points off of turnovers (16-11), turnovers (13-20), blocks (3-1), steals (11-6), and assists (16-9).
The Blue Hens also had the advantage in shooting, with the team boasting 47%(27-57) and Akron 37%(20-54). The Blue Hens also bested the Zips from the three-point line, with the team shooting 45%(10-22) and Akron shooting 27%( 6-22).

Delaware was firing on all cylinders at the beginning of this game, taking a 12-6 edge with 5:49 left in the opening period. Kailah Correa and Ella Wanzer each drained a three-pointer during this stretch.
The Zips punched back by outscoring the Hens 9-6 for the rest of the first quarter to slice the deficit to three points (18-15).
Delaware leads by five points at the end of the first half.
Akron found a rhythm in the early minutes of the second quarter, as they went on a 7-2 run to grab a 22-20 advantage with 6:07 remaining in the first half.
UD fought back by outscoring the Zips 12-5 for the rest of the quarter to head into halftime with a 32-27 lead. The Blue Hens were hot from the three-point line during this time, as Kailah Correa nailed two and Ella Wanzer made one.
UD leads by six points at the end of the third quarter.
Akron would chip away at Delaware’s lead in the early minutes of the second half, as the team outscored the Hens 10-6 to cut the deficit to one point (38-37) with 5:49 remaining in the third.
UD wouldn’t lose their lead, as they went on a 13-8 run in the remaining minutes of the third quarter to take a 51-45 advantage into the fourth. Junior forward Arantxa Portalez came on strong during that time, scoring four points and collecting two rebounds.

It was the Kailah Correa and Ella Wanzer show in the fourth quarter, as the duo scored 20 of the team’s 24 points to seal a 75-56 victory.
