Vance Scores 23 as Cherisier, Fantroy Post Double-Doubles in Blue Hens’ 91–80 Win

The University of Delaware women’s basketball team earned its fourth win of the season on Sunday with a 91-80 victory over the Towson Tigers.

Sophomore guard Trinity Vance led the team in scoring in the game with 23 points.

Junior center Ande’a Cherisier and Junior guard Lay Fantroy each recorded a double-double in the win. Cherisier had 15 points and 13 rebounds. Fantroy put together 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Freshman guard Kailah Correa also scored in double-digits with 17 points.

UD had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included turnovers (16-19) and rebounds (44-27).

The Blue Hens also bested the Huskies from the three-point line, with the team shooting 70%(7-10) and Towson shooting 45%(9-20). Delaware also outshot the Tigers at the free-throw line, with the team shooting 79%(22-28), and Towson 30%(3-10).

The Blue Hens trail by two points at the end of the first quarter.

This game brought together two former Coastal Athletic Association rivals in a year marked by Delaware’s move to Conference USA.

Although the teams no longer share a conference, the intensity of this matchup remained high. In the opening six minutes, the lead changed hands repeatedly, and the score was tied three times. The Tigers finally broke the deadlock with a three-pointer, seizing a 10–7 advantage with 4:30 left in the first period.

In the next three minutes, the Hens outscored Towson 9-6 to tie the game at 16 with 1:47 remaining in the first quarter. Junior guard Safi Kolliegbo was the one to tie the game with a jumper.

The Tigers answered back by retaking the lead by outscoring UD 5-3 for the rest of the quarter to head into the second with a 21-19 advantage.

UD trails by four points at the end of the first half.

Towson opened the second period with purpose, stringing together a 9–5 run to extend its lead to 33–24 with 6:01 left in the first half.

Delaware punched back by outscoring the Tigers 12-4 to slice the deficit to one point (37-36) with 45 seconds left on the clock. Trinity Vance led the charge with four points and a steal.

Towson held firm, closing the first half with a 5–2 run that pushed the score to 42–38.

The Hens take a two-point lead at the end of the third quarter.

UD came out in the early minutes of the second half with renewed energy, outscoring the Tigers 14-8 to grab a 52-50 advantage with 3:47 left in the third. Senior guard Ella Wanzer had the hot touch from the three-point line in this stretch, draining two from downtown.

The Hens would score nine more points in the quarter to give them a 61-59 edge heading into the fourth. Ande’a Cherisier hit two free-throw shots near the end of the period to give her team that lead.

University of Delaware takes home a 91-80 win!

The Blue Hens came on fire in the early minutes of the fourth by going on a 26-16 run to expand their advantage to 12 points (87-75) with 2:19 left in the game. Trinity Vance, Kailah Correa, and Lay Fantroy gave the Tigers’ defenders trouble, scoring 17 of the 26 points.

UD would add four more points to their score in the remaining minutes of the second half to seal a 91-80 victory over Towson.
