The Delaware State University women’s basketball team earned the third win of the season on Saturday with a dominating 83-38 victory over the Division III St. Mary’s (MD) College Seahawks.
Junior guard Jermesha Frierson and guard Iman Addison led the team in the win in scoring with 13 points.
Sophomore forward Ericka Huggins recorded a double-double in the game, scoring 11 points and collecting ten rebounds.
Two other DSU players who scored in double-digits were Junior guard Mahogany Cottingham (11) and Freshman guard Amya Scott (11).
Delaware State had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (58-20), fast-break points (10-1), points off of turnovers (27-6), turnovers (14-25), blocks (4-0), steals (16-3), assists (20-7), and rebounds (36-26).
DSU also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 57
%(36-63) and St. Mary’s shooting 30%(15-50). Delaware State also outshot the Hawks from the three-point line, with the team shooting 24% (4-17) and St. Mary’s shooting 18% (2-11).

The Hornets started this game with a fire under them, as they took a 16-9 edge with 3:14 left in the opening period. Ericka Huggins, Mahogany Cottingham, and Amya Scott led the charge during that run, scoring ten of the team’s 16 points.
St. Mary’s answered back by outscoring DSU 5-2 for the rest of the first quarter to cut the deficit to four points (18-14).
DSU leads by 15 at the end of the first half.
The trio of Ericka Huggins, Jermesha Frierson, and Iman Addison would widen Delaware State’s advantage in the second, as they saw the basket clearly that quarter, scoring 20 of the team’s 22 points to head into halftime with a 40-25 edge.
The Hornets lead by 35 at the end of the third quarter.
DSU continued to widen its lead in the third period, as Mahogany Cottingham, Amya Scott, and junior guard Kaitlyn Adams made it hard for the St. Mary’s defenders, as the trio scored 20 of the team’s 27 points to take a 67-32 advantage in the fourth.

The Hornets continued to keep the pedal to the metal in the fourth as they outscored the Seahawks 16-6 to wrap an 83-38 victory.
