Powell scores 21 in Goldey-Beacom’s 87-52 win over Bowie State

The  Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team moved its record to 3-0 by beating the Bowie State University Bulldogs 87-52 on Tuesday.

Sophomore guard Tre Powell led the team in scoring in the win with 21 points.

Junior forward  Julian Williams recorded a double-double in the victory, recording 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Two other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were junior guard Masud Stewart (12) and Junior guard/forward Emarquis Jones (13).

The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (32-20), points off of turnovers (16-9), second-chance points (23-6), fast break points (14-7), bench points (31-9), rebounds (49-27), assists (17-10), turnovers (12-16), and steals (8-3).

GBC also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 41.6% (32-77) and Bowie State shooting 33.3% (19-57). The Lightning also outshot the Bulldogs from the three-point line, with the team shooting 35.1% (13-37) and Bowie State shooting 13.6% (3-22). Goldey-Beacom also outshot the Bulldogs from the free throw line, with the team shooting 76.9%(10-13) and Bowie State shooting 64.7% (11-17).

Goldey-Beacom leads by 15 at the end of the first half.

The Lightning struck first and fast in this matchup as the team jumped out to a 34-18 edge with 7:57 left in the opening half. Emarquis Jones, junior guard Elisha Brown, Tre Powell, and  Julian Williams were all feeling it during that run, scoring 30 of the 34 points.

GBC was hot from the three-point line during this stretch, as they made six.

Goldey-Beacom would score 11 more points for the rest of the first half to head into halftime with a 45-30 advantage.

The Lightning take home an 87-52 victory!

Fast forward to the 8:18 minute mark of the second half, where Masud Stewart drained back-to-back three pointers to push Goldey’s lead to 33 points (72-39).

GBC would add 15 more points to their total to seal a dominating 87-52 win over Bowie State.
