The Delaware State University men’s basketball team earned its first victory of the season on Tuesday with an 88-70 win over the Division II Cheyney University Wolves.
Senior guard Rahmir Moore led the team in scoring in the win with 17 points.
Four other DSU players who scored in double-digits were senior forward Miles Webb (12), senior guard Zion Bethea (12), junior forward Ademar Santos (10), and Senior guard Corey Perkins (16).
Delaware State had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (40-22), fast-break points (25-9), points off of turnovers (18-13), turnovers (14-16), blocks (4-3), assists (21-11), and rebounds (40-25).
DSU also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 51%(32-63) and Cheyney shooting 44%(24-54). The Hornets were also the better team at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 48%(11-23), and the Wolves shot 35% (6-17). Delaware State also outshot Cheyney at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 68(13-19), and the Wolves shot 67(16-24).

The Hornets found a rhythm quickly in this game, as the team jumped out to a 31-10 edge with 10:47 left in the opening period. Rahmir Moore had the hot hand during this time, scoring 11 of the 31 points.
DSU scored 18 more points down the stretch to end the first half with a 49-27 advantage. Delaware State saw the bucket with ease from the three-point line, nailing four shots from there during that time.

In the early minutes of the second half, Cheyney continued to fight, outscoring DSU 26-17 to cut the deficit to 13 points ( 66-53) with 8:30 left in the game.
Fast forward to the 8:03 minute mark, where the Hornets’ lead went to 20 (73-53), when Ademar Santos drilled a three-point shot.
Delaware State added 15 more points to their score to seal an 88-70 win over the Wolves.
