The University of Delaware men’s basketball team earned its first win of the season on Tuesday with an 81-70 victory over the Saint Peter’s University Peacocks.
Senior guard Justyn Fernandez led the team in scoring in the win with 18 points.
Sophomore forward Macon Emory recorded a double-double in the win with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Two other Hens players scored in double digits: senior forward Tyler Houser (17) and junior guard Christian Bliss (15).
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (26-22), blocks (3-2), assists (18-15), and rebounds (38-26).
UD also had the advantage in shooting, with the team boasting 54% (28-52) and Saint Peter’s 41%(26-63). The Blue Hens also bested the Peacocks from the three-point line, with the team shooting 52%( 11-21) and SPU shooting 38%(12-32).

Delaware came out roaring in the early minutes of the opening period by first ripping off 12 straight points and then stretching it to a 25-7 edge with 9:44 left on the clock in the first half. Justyn Fernandez,
Macon Emory and senior guard Jameel Brown gave the Saint Peter’s defenders problems during this time, scoring 20 of the 25 points.
Fast forward to the 2:42 minute mark, where the Hens’ advantage ballooned to 43-19, when Tyler Houser made a layup.
UD scored six more points in the first half to take a 49-26 lead into halftime.
UD takes home an 81-70 win!
The second half started with the Peacocks dashing off on a 20-7 run to slice the deficit to ten points (56-46) with 13:34 remaining in the game.
Fast forward to the 6:08 minute mark, where SPU’s Adetokunbo Bakare nailed a three-pointer to cut Delaware’s lead to five points (66-61).
The Blue Hens never lost the lead as they held off Saint Peter’s, and outscored them for the rest of the game 15-9 to seal an 81-70 victory.
