The Delaware State University’s football team earned its eighth victory of the season on Saturday with a 26-13 win over the Howard University Bison.
Senior running back Marquis Gillis had a strong game, rushing for 92 yards on 16 carries.
Junior wide receiver Terrence Rone had a breakout game by having three catches for 90 yards.

Both teams had a slow start, combining for three punts, and DSU also had a turnover on downs and lost a fumble in the opening quarter.
It wasn’t till the 10:55 minute in the second quarter that the scoreboard lit up with points. Those points came from the Hornets, who went on a nine-play, 49-yard drive that ended with their sophomore kicker, Patrick Fisher-Butler, booting through a 34-yard field goal to give his team a 3-0 edge.
Howard answered right back by going 38 yards on eight plays, drilling a 28-yard field goal to tie the game at the three with 6:20 remaining in the second quarter.
Delaware State punched back by scoring the first touchdown of the game by marching 68 yards in eight plays, with junior quarterback Jayden Sauray rushing five yards for the score to give his team a 7-0 lead with 3:01 left in the first half.
Other than the touchdown, another highlight came on the first play of the drive on first and ten on their own 32-yard line, where Sauray found his wide receiver, Terrence Rone, for a 45-yard completion.
Two possessions later, DSU found the endzone once again, when the team drove 61 yards in four plays to end with freshman wideout Ryan Pellum Taylor rushing four yards for the score to give his team a 17-3 advantage with 29 seconds left in the first half.

Howard would boot a 32-yard field goal as time expired to slice the deficit to 11 points (17-6) heading into halftime.

The Bison came out in the second half, advancing the ball effectively down the field. The team covered 62 yards in 14 plays, reaching the Hornets ‘ nine-yard line.
It would go wrong on the next play for Howard as Hornets junior defensive back Wayne Favors III would pick the ball off and return it 91 yards for a touchdown to give his team a 23-6 lead at the end of the third quarter. The extra point after the touchdown failed.
Delaware State would add three more points to their lead in the fourth, and Howard scored a touchdown, but the Hornets still took home a 26-13 victory.
