The Goldey-Beacom women’s soccer team earned its first victory of the season on Saturday with a 2-1 win over the College of Staten Island Dolphins. The Lightning has now won five straight games versus the Dolphins.
Goldey-Beacom and Staten Island were tied 1-1 at halftime after both teams scored in the first half.
Staten Island wouldn’t waste any time scoring in this match, as Annika Jurik would find the net at the 5:56 mark to put her team on the board with a 1-0 lead. Mazzy Cirinelli assisted on Jurik’s goal.
Close to 19 minutes later, Goldey-Beacom tied the game at one when sophomore forward Ryley Dixon scored a goal, which was assisted by sophomore midfielder Tess Pearce.
The Lightning take home a 2-1 win!
Thirteen minutes into the second half, Nataly Ruiz scored what would become the game-winning goal, assisted by Tess Pearce—her second assist of the match. The Lightning defense held strong the rest of the way to secure the hard-fought victory.

The standouts in the game for the Lightning were Ryley Dixon, Tess Pearce, Nataly Ruiz, and freshman goal keeper Malaika Nunziata.
Dixon had five shots, three shots at the goal, and scored one goal in the game.
Pearce had three shots, one shot at the goal, and two assists in the win.
Ruiz had one shot, one shot at the goal, and scored one goal in the victory.
Nunziata allowed one goal and had five saves in 90 minutes in the game.
