Wilmington University upsets #17 Adelphi 2-1 in season opener

The Wilmington University women’s soccer team started the 2025 season by pulling off a 2-1 upset comeback win over the #17 nationally ranked Adelphi University Panthers. The victory is also the first NCAA win for first-year head coach Sam Cain.

Wilmington University trailed by one goal at halftime.

Adelphi struck first in this game when Kayleigh Goodrich made a penalty kick to give her team a 1-0 edge at the 23rd minute.

The Panthers outshot the Wildcats by a wide margin in the first half, which was 11-2.

The Wildcats take home a 2-1 win!

Wilmington punched back quickly in the early minutes of the second half as freshman Eboni Bradshaw found the goal on the near side past the keeper to tie the game at one at the 48-minute mark. That score was the first of her collegiate career.

19 minutes later, WilmU would take their first lead of the game (2-1) when freshman Anneli Donath found the net.

Wilmington outshot the Panthers 7-4 in the second half.
