Burch throws a no-hitter versus SNHU, Goldey-Beacom forces deciding game with comeback win over Wilmington University

The Goldey-Beacom College softball team swept both games on Saturday in the NCAA Division II East Region 2 tournament. In the first game, the team took a 5-0 win over Southern New Hampshire and, in the second game, took home a 3-2 victory over the Wilmington University Wildcats. By winning the game over WilmU, the Lightning forced a deciding game for the East Regional title, which will be played on Sunday at 11 am ET.

Game Recap GM 1:

Goldey-Beacom takes home a 5-0 win!

 Senior infielder Alex Lowry would get the Bolts on the board first in this game with an RBI single to right center to give her team a 1-0 edge in the opening inning.

The Lightning’s lead went to 2-0 in the top of the third inning when senior pitcher Wynter Radcliffe hit an RBI single up the middle.

Sophomore Utility player Chaneyl Johnson put the team up by three runs in the fourth when she scored on a wild pitch.

Goldey-Beacom’s advantage extended to 5-0 in the fifth inning when  Senior utility player Ariana Mirenda smoked an RBI triple to left center and Wynter Radcliffe pushed a run home after reaching base on a throwing error by the second baseman.

Pitching Recap:

Senior pitcher Caitlyn Burch brought her best stuff in the most important game for the Lightning as she threw a no-hitter. Burch went seven innings, had six walks, struck out five, and earned the win.

Game Recap GM 2:

Goldey-Beacom takes home a 3-2 win!

Wilmington University lit up the scoreboard first in this game by scoring two runs at the top of the fourth, which came from a throwing error and an RBI single.

Fast forward to the seventh inning, where the pressure was on the Lightning to produce runs, or their run in the tournament would come to an end.

Goldey-Beacom rose to the moment and scored three runs on four hits and one error to grab the comeback 3-2 win and force a game two on Sunday for the East regional title.

The first run of the inning came from Sophomore Utility player McKenna Frank, who hit an RBI single up the middle.

On the next play, Ariana Mirenda slugged an RBI double down the right-field line.

Frank would seal the game-winning run when she scored on a throwing error by the first baseman to give her team a 3-2 victory.
