The Goldey-Beacom College softball team is moving on after defeating the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights 7-5 in the first round of the NCAA Division II East Region 2 Tournament.

Goldey-Beacom leads 5-0 after the second inning.
The Lightning struck first in the game when senior infielder Alex Lowry hit an RBI single to center field to give her team a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the opening inning.
Goldey-Beacom pushed their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second when senior infielder Bryn Bohmann slapped a three-run double to left-center, and then senior pitcher Wynter Radcliffe hit an RBI single up the middle.
The Lightning takes home a 7-5 win!
Bridgeport would tie this game up at five in the top of the third inning by scoring five runs, which included a two-run homer to left field.
GBC would regain the lead at the bottom of the fourth when Senior utility player Ariana Mirenda slapped an RBI single up the middle to give her team a 6-5 advantage.
Bryn Bohmann expanded the Lightning’s edge to 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth, when she hit a RBI double.
Pitching Recap:
Senior pitcher Caitlyn Burch earned the win by going 4.2 innings, giving up two hits, and striking out ten.
