6-run seventh inning in Game 2 earns Wilmington University a split versus Caldwell

The Wilmington University baseball team earned a split on Tuesday versus the Caldwell University Cougars. WilmU lost the first game 7-6 and took home the victory in the second match 9-4.

Game Recap:

Wilmington University trails by two runs at the end of the fifth inning.

Caldwell struck first in this game by knocking home a run with a double to left field in the bottom of the second to give the team a 1-0 edge.

The Cougars added to their advantage in the bottom of the third with a two-run RBI single up the middle to take the score to 3-0.

WilmU would finally light up the board at the top of the fourth inning when Redshirt junior outfielder Cam Trego hit an RBI double to left center to slice the deficit to 3-1.

Senior outfielder/ pitcher Shawn Edevane cut the score to 3-2 in the top of the fifth when he pushed home on a run with a ground out to first base.

In the bottom of the inning, Caldwell bumped their lead back to two runs (4-2)with a RBI double to center field.

The Wildcats take home a 9-4 win!

Freshman catcher Jordan Santiago sliced the score to 4-3 for the Cats when he pushed home a run with a Sac Fly in the top of the sixth inning.

Wilmington had a different energy in the seventh, as the team found a way to pour the runs on in this inning. WilmU scored six runs on three hits and one error to seal a comeback 9-4 win.

Shawn Edevane started the scoring in the inning with a RBI double up the middle.

Two plays later, senior outfielder AJ Tropiano smoked a RBI triple to right field.

Later in the inning, Senior infielder Tristan Schoendienst slapped a two-run single to right field. Cam Trego would also score during this time on a fielding error by the right fielder.

Santiago capped the inning off by pushing home a run with a sacrifice fly to give his team a 9-4 lead.

Pitching Recap:

Wilmington University used four pitchers in the game, including junior pitcher/second baseman Zack Czarnecki, who pitched 1.0 inning, gave up one hit, struck out two, and earned the win.
