Wilmington University earns a split versus Goldey-Beacom

The Wilmington University baseball team earned a split on Sunday versus the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning. WilmU lost the first game 12-7 and took home the victory in the second match 18-4.

Game Recap:

Wilmington University leads by five runs at the end of the fourth inning.

Freshman infielder Zach Rosenzweig blasted the Wildcats on the scoreboard in the top of the opening inning with a two-run homer to left field to give his team a 2-0 edge.

In the bottom of the inning, the Lightning would cut the score to 2-1 when the team scored on a throwing error.

Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Chase Fleming would give the Cats a 3-1 edge in the top of the third with an RBI single.

WilmU’s advantage would grow to 6-1 in the top of the fourth when sophomore outfielder/pitcher Brandon Grygo slapped a two-run single up the middle, and then four plays later, Rosenzweig hit an RBI single to right center.

The Wildcats take home an 18-4 win!

In the fifth inning, the Bolts would pull the score to 6-3 when Matt Benner hit a two-run homer to left field.

Goldey-Beacom would cut the deficit to two (6-4) in the sixth when they scored on a fielding error.

Wilmington punched back in a big way in the top of the seventh inning when the team scored 12 runs on six hits and two errors to seal an 18-4 victory.

The highlight of the inning came when Senior infielder Tristan Schoendienst slugged a four-run homer to left center.

Pitching Recap:

 Junior pitcher Steve Schenning earned the win by going 4.1 innings, giving up three hits, three runs, two earned runs, two walks, striking out two, and one home run.

Brandon Grygo went 2.2 innings, gave up three hits, one run, one earned run, and struck out one.
